This Article Details about the Procedure of Splitting the Adaptive Processing Server in the SAP BO 4.x environment. SAP recommends to Split “Adaptive Processing Server” as a of Good Practice.
When we install SAP BO 4.x , by Default 1 Adaptive Processing Server is installed and it contains about 21 Services with a default Memory of 1GB allocated to it.
Therefore as a Good Practice, we should Split the Adaptive Processing Server into multiple Servers so that each Adaptive Processing Server holds certain services with dedicated amount of Memory.
To decide how many Adaptive Processing Servers is required and Which Services should each one of them contains, we have to check the Workload of the BO users and which Client Tools they use.
Also you can check the below SAPNOTE which details about Sizing the Adaptive Processing Server.
1694041 – BI 4.x Consulting:- How to size the Adaptive Processing Server.
In the Below procedure we will understand how we can split the Adaptive Processing Server for a Standalone SAP BO Installation with 32GB is RAM.
Step 1 :- Login with the Administrator User and Goto Servers-> Core Services.
Keep the original Adaptive Processing Server as it is and Do not remove any services from it and Stop this Original Adaptive Processing Server.
right click on the Adaptive processing server and select Stop Server, while the server is stopping right click again
and select Disable server.
To make sure it does not start automatically,
Right Click -> properties and uncheck the box “Automatically start this server when the SIA starts”.
And you should see that the Adaptive Processing Server is Stopped and Disabled.
Step 2 :-Clone the Adaptive Processing Server
right click on the original Adaptive Server and select clone server.
and give the name for this cloned Adaptive Processing Server (Ex :-Z_DSLbridge)
and then click ok.
Step 3 :- Select the required Services for this new Cloned Adaptive Processing Server.
Right Click on the Cloned Adaptive Processing Server and click Select Services.
Here chose the required services as per your requirement.
Step 4 :- Customize and Set the Heap Size (here i am setting the Heap Size as 8GB
(use notepad to edit and paste )
right click-> properties
and copy and paste the command line content in notepad
and change the value for Xmx1 TO Xmx8
Then Scroll down and select the option “Automatically start this server when the SIA starts” to automatically start the server.
Then right click on this new server and select “start server” and when it is starting again right click and select “Enable Server”
Wait for Some time and your new Adaptive Processing Server will be running and Enabled.
Step 5 :- You can Create more Adaptive Processing Servers based on your requirement and your system resources.
Example i created another Adaptive Processing Server for “MDAS OLAP Analysis and Bex” and included the below services and a Heap Size of 8GB with the above steps.
Multi Dimensional Analysis Service
BEx Web Applications Service
Step 6 :- After Separating the required Services into separate Adaptive Processing Servers, we have to Clone another Adaptive Processing Server and remove all the Services which were already included in other Adaptive Processing Server and set the appropriate Heap Size.
Step 7 :- After Splitting all the required Adaptive Processing servers, restart the BO Instance and make sure by Logging to CMC that the Original Adaptive Server is not enabled and the manually created Adaptive Processing Servers are running.
